Terrible Service Quality of Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh

 

Did you ever guess how poor service can be? At least for so called World’s Renowned Bank like Standard Chartered Bank -SCB?

 Standard Chartered Bank, What a Service!!

 

Let me share my experience with you.

It’s a payroll account, opened (officially opened, documents submitted earlier) on April 20th, 2011. Account title Abu Kahab Mohammad Nahid Hossain. An email from them contains with my account information also said “Your debit card, cheque book and TIN(Telephone Identification Number) shall be sent to your mailing address within 06 working days of account opening date.”

I have received the TIN number within 26th, but not the debit card and check book. On 27th I contacted with their call center. They said the packet(contains debit card and check book) has dispatched for my address on 24th. It would take maximum 5 days to reach at my address. On May 3, I again contacted with them. This time they said the packet has been returned back to them because of incomplete address. I asked them how it can be, if the address is wrong then how the TIN(Telephone Identification Number) has reached ? The guy had no answer. Then he told me that he re-queue the parcel for sending to my address.

On Sunday, May 8 2011, I received a call from them that, because of incomplete address the parcel has returned and I have to collect it from their branch, and ask which branch they should send it. I told to send it at their Dhanmondi 5 Branch. They told me to collect it on next Wednesday which is May 11th, 2011.

On May 11th I went to the Dhanmondi 5 branch, but they found no parcel for me. They contact with the call center. The call center says their system(software) shows it has already been received by Dhanmondi 5 Branch. They searched it again. But no result. They employee on Dhanmondi 5 Branch told me to contact with her on next day.

I contacted and found no result. Then I contact with the call center again, they said me that they are filing a complaint about it. On that evening I got an email from them contains the reference number of the complaint which is 0345/05/11/011585/C01 dated 2011-05-12.

On Saturday, May 14th I got a call from them that the parcel is now at Dhanmondi 2 Branch and I can collect it from there on next Sunday.

Today Sunday, May 15, 2011 I went to Dhanmondi 2 Branch, but they found no parcel. And again asked to contact with the call center. The call center girl told me that they need some more time to observe the situation.

The behavior of their office staffs are very good, something like it is not a big problem. Solution will be made within few hours but alas! Nothing happed within couple of weeks. And now I’m thinking of couple of months, may be years.

What a service!!!!…………Their tagline should be: Standard Chartered Bank -Your Annoying Partner. World Class low quality service.

You should remember that it is payroll account, so service should be in first priority but it seems the procedures are in first priority whether it makes a good result or not.

Update: On the very next day 16th May at 10AM, I got a call from their Head Office at Gulshan that if my problem is solved mentioning this blog. I replied negative. Within 2 hours around 12PM they called me back, saying it was a serious miscommunication and to collect my account package from Dhanmondi 5 Branch. I went there and collected it.
My question is that if they can do a work within 2 hours then why they fooling me around a month!??

    thnx all of u to share such informative things.me like rafiqul islam have faced d same problem with dbbl. they have lost all of my documents taken from me in front of my hall: “muhsin hall”, though they told me i’ll get evrything including atm card within 15days..

    hmm! I have another terrible experience with SCB Credit Card.

    I deposited a cheque to Bills Bay at 19 April 2011, that my last bills pay date is 26 March 2011. But SCB not deposited my money, even they did not give me any information about my cheque. After long time, 3 May 2011, they back my cheque and due to non paid, they charged finance.

    What a joke! They are technically earn money… but for their guilty, they punish me.

    still I am suffering…

    I have a savings acount with a SCBL credit card. After paying my full payment of my credit card bill in due time they again sent financial charge in next month bill. Ha ha….what a joke! Again the call center says that I have to pay much more taka of the original bill. some thing like 0.35%.and it’s a continious billing.

    I am glad you posted this – I hope this posting gave them a wake up call.

    The problems with Banks in Bangladesh is there will always be stories like this…for some reason the system has too many flaws. How do know? I used to work for Gridlays (now SCB).

    I used to work in HSBC. The problem is not with the staffs. There is just too much work for every department. Like, the department where I used to work required 6 people based on the amount of the workload, but our MANAGERS would hire 3 people. As a result, amra pura dowrer upor thaki, as a result, 5 days-er kaaj korte korte 5 weeks lege jai.

    After, I left HSBC & joined another Multi-National company, I opened a savings account in HSBC. The HSBC branch people told me it will take them 5 days. Since, I worked in HSBC’s Central processing centre, so I knew that my cheque book & ATM will not be available till 5 weeks. Even though the branch staff told me to go there in 5 days, I went there after 5 weeks & found my cheque book & ATM ready.

    Service of banks of our country is very poor.They run their business with nothing else except fame. I am student of Dhaka University studying at business faculty.Some days ago I opened an account in DBBL.they told me that I will received my debit card after 2 weeks.Already 3 weeks has passed but till now I haven’t my debit card. It seems to me now that I won’t get my debit card before a month. so there is nothing to do except waiting.I think communicating with them I will just be annoyed and won’t get any satisfactory answer.

    well i had a similar experience in collecting my debit card but i had to wait a whole month for it. these guys really are annoying little pests.

    thnx a lot everyone for sharing information abt SCB. But its not only abt their poor service surprisingly their rude behavior with clients also. which is very unexpected like a bank SCB. me and most of my friends are victim of their rude behavior. sometimes they took it personally.

    SCB is not a bank. It is like KABLIWALA. Some girls are sitting in the call center and bugging people too much. For one reason, per day they are calling 3-4 times, which is not require. I have decided to leave this bank.
    Same thing happened to me like the first writer. I needed to spend 100+ tk through mobile by talking with them to get my Pass Ward. Thanks

    SCB’s interest rates are not competitive. Their charges are too high. Only thing that comes in favor because they have less number of clients in Bangladesh is that their customer care is always free… You can call them, someone picks up.

    Other than that, where’s the benefits of this bank? You can call me moron. I have stuck with this bank for long time (lazy to close the account). On return it gives nothing. If this bank adds 1000 tk on deposits they will deduct 1200 for as many charges anyway.
